Open data

The transport datasets inside SoleTax, their sources, and what we publish back.

SoleTax ships with a map of Britain's railways, stations, and city transit lines. It is built from four public datasets:

• TfL Open Data — London line and station sequences. Powered by TfL Open Data. Contains OS data © Crown copyright and database rights 2016.
• OpenStreetMap — line and stop sequences for city transit systems outside London. © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database License 1.0.
• Ordnance Survey OpenMap Local — railway alignments. Contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right 2026. Open Government Licence v3.0.
• NaPTAN — the national register of stations and stops, from the Department for Transport under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

What we publish

The dataset we derive from OpenStreetMap is itself available under the Open Database License, as the licence asks:

• uk-rail-lines-osm.json — ordered station sequences per line for UK urban rail systems outside London. Refreshed roughly annually; the file carries its own generation date and OSM snapshot timestamp.
